How Do Matches Like This Even Happen? A 1000 ELO solo player matched with a 2600 ELO?

Hi all, I know, sick of these matchmaking feedback threads. However, this match has to be the worst matchmaking I've ever seen. I normally am understanding that bad matchmaking occasionally happens, and I accept that, but look at this one (I was the Vamana):

    http://smite.guru/censor/match/hr/16036

I had a bad feeling when the Hun Batz in the pre-game chat said "I have no idea what I'm doing." From there, it just got worse. The Hun Batz went to lane right away, resulting in late-buff starts for him and Anubis. When they killed the red buff, he sat at it for 30 seconds saying "what is this red glowy thing?" From then on, the match went as you expected, we got stomped.

Afterwards, I decided to check Smite Guru to see how "fair" of a match it is. The Hun Batz had ~1000 ELO, 34% win rate, and generally very bad stats. Our opponents, a 4 man premade with an average ELO of 2300, while my team had a 1000 (he's solo queue as well, so it's not because he was partied with anyone), a 2000, a 1600 ELO, and me with a 2650 ELO. How was this a fair match?

Hi-Rez should look at this match to see how broken Matchmaking is, a completely imbalanced match like this should never happen. This happened to anyone else?

Considering that you're playing at an hour when most people are asleep *looks at clock*, you're bound to get an even worse matchmaking that the already bad matchmaking can give you.

This is usually the time when solo people who are half-asleep, half-drunk or half-awake get matched up with fully premade parties (typically university students who get to stay up all night and wake up for afternoon lectures the next day).
And your link proves just that, a fully premade party with four solo queued players.

How do I know about all of this? Because in the past, I know a few friends who invited me to premade parties to grind masteries on the god of their choice. And more often than not, it will usually be a one sided massacre where the other team usually consists of players lower than level 30 and most of them don't even know how to surrender.

My advice? Try to avoid playing at this time (very early in the morning) and instead try somewhere between 6:00-11:00PM where the server will be most populated with both adults and young people, allowing the matchmaker to search for more similar level opponents.

first of all, Smite Guru does not have accurate ELO scores. Your true ELO is internal data only visible to Hirez and you cannot see it. What Smite Guru has is a "guess"

Secondly, After 3:30 in a queue, the MM will throw you into literally any match no matter what In league, it takes 11:30 before the match maker gives up. Although in league, Below gold players will never be matched with Diamond or Masters players, no matter how long you're in the queue.

If you want more competitive and fair matches, play league. It has more strict matchmaking, and better protections against a bad player getting matched with a really really good one.

Also take a look at your region. If you're playing games at 4 AM in the NA region, be aware that basically only the most hardcore people are going to be up and playing around that time. You're probably going to get matched with them. You can try going to a region in primetime, but you'll have huge lag and I don't recommend it.

    Anyway, peace.

True. I don't even understand how a rumor like that is around. A clanmate just finished qualifiers and was put in silver 1. His first 2 or 3 games after placement were with 9 diamond and masters players.

People seriously need to read the Match Making FAQ. How has no one read it and realized that HiRez says directly in it, there isn't any matchmaking...

Okay, I may have misremembered it. The actual rule is "most extreme MMR differences will not be matched" but this isn't really clear and may mean that it's okay to match 3 bronze and 2 masters with another team that is 3 bronze and 2 masters. I really doubt it means a bunch of bronze can get matched against a bunch of masters though. If Bronze and Masters is somehow not an extreme enough MMR difference than what is?

It's not a rumor, he must have just had a really good MMR for a silver player.

Sure, here, lets read it again. Here is the link

    http://www.smitegame.com/matchmaking-faq/

Please go on ahead and tell me where it says directly in it that there isn't any matchmaking.

    I'll be waiting.

Hirez employees have already personally confirmed that every mode has its own matchmaking, except co-op and I think motd.
