    Ymir help please

So I tried him out a while back and despised him... But dat awesome voice pack made me try him again (his "hi" voice is amazing.)

Now I've gotten to the point where I have a base understanding of how to use Ymir. Greater Blink + Freeze Breath + Communicating teammates = wreckage.

Are there any good builds to use or should I just counter the enemy team? Also what are his ability combos? Is cooldown a must have?
    I don't have a cool signature.

I once rushed Soul Reaver on Ymir.

    Top kills.

As far as builds go: figure out which gods are the main damage dealers on the opponent's team, and build for that. Don't forget one or two offensive items to enhance your damage. Supports can do damage too.
Smite is an online multiplayer game. You can't have immediate gratification simply by starting the game. The ground is even. There's another player on the other side. You are not entitled to having everything favoring you at every time. If you don't like it, by all means, go back to the 1-shot-kills-all Aliens: Colonial Marines singleplayer.

Pretty much this, you're a guardian so build what the enemy team's damage is as defense, and then a few damage items so you're not just a CC dispensing tank.

The beauty of Ymir's kit is that there are no combos. If you see a high priority target, you try to shut them down with your kit.

    Usually, it's just land 3 (followed by a 2 and/or 4) and profit.

Learning to use the wall is the key.

It's your escape, but it can also be your initiator. Everyone can shut down a squishy with the breath, but the wall can do the same with practice. Just before you start getting the hang of it, keep in mind 'vvs' is for 'Sorry!'. You'll need that.

So, the 3-2 combo is pretty obvious, but if your team doesn't kill your prey, you can follow it with a wall and ult. If there's a regular wall nearby, your '1' can box in the target for a full charge, but sometimes the wall itself if enough for an almost max dmg '4'.

You can change the order of the above combo for even more damage, though it is harder. The trick is waiting for the subject to attack, puting a wall behind him, and ult infront of him. The wall should provide enough distraction for the ult to hit, and you can finish with '3-2'. I use this when I'm unsure that my teammates will come to finish the job, and when I'm sure the target has no escapes. Or when I want to imagine the surprized look of an overconfident assassin's face.

My wife just started learning how to do this with Ymir and is loving it.

    The kill combo is:
    blink, 3, 2, 1, ult.
    Why?
blink to get on top of the target, giving them zero time to react
3: your stun and aoe dmg
2: more aoe dmg, one of the highest dmg skills in the game AND its a slow.
1: your wall, so they now have to run away from you slowed AND around a wall
ult: your massive dmg + more slows.
Done right you can 100-zero a squishy.

40% is not a must have, but cd boots nearly are. Ymir has so high base dmg that you really dont need power to hurt ppl.

If you are playing support, you build like this:
hog + mark of the vanguard.
    1) rush winged blade
    2) tier 1 boots
    3) sov (remember to buy hog 3 before the 10 min mark, more important then getting sov finished)
    4) amulet
    5) finish cd boots
    6) magi blessing
    7) doesnt really matter since the game will be over.
    .
Now if you want to build ymir in a more free role:
    1) rush winged blade: speed, cd, health and a really good passive.
    2) Tier 1 boots
    3) Hide of urchin: gives you protecting vs everything + health + mana = best single defensive item in the game
    4) finish cd boots
    5) bancroft: more magic power + life steal = good
    6) Ethereal Staff (a fantastic item on ymir, because of his health scaling)
    7) soul reaver = for those nasty instant 50% health hits.
    actives: blink + curse/beads

Personally, I like starting with mystical mail and CDR boots. This is an aggressive build and can pay of TREMENDOUSLY, but if you give an early kill or your team starts feeding it doesn't work out to well in the end game.

Early game though, a simple 3, 2, combo with an auto attack in between each ability (remember yours passive increases auto attack damage by 100% of an enemy is damage by one of your abilities for a few seconds.), and the mystical mail ticks will bring any carry/jungler (even supports early) down low enough for your carry/jungler to finish them off. Not to mention you still have your ult for secures or intimation. This build is great for feeding your carries and damage characters as soon as possible.

Blink is always a must, with all your damage, being able to get in close and wreck house instantly is absolutely necessary.

I can fill any role in any gamemode, as long as it's not conquest.
