SmiteGuru scoring, how does it work?

I don't get how it works? Does it only increase on a win? What determines how much it increases? I had a Match as Neef where I went 5/2/1 and it went up something like +40. Then I have another match where I go 24/4/14 with neef and it goes up +12? I also have matches where I do absolutely terrible and we win and it goes up, and then have matches where I do great and we lose and it goes down?

If my understanding of it is correct, it doesn't take your performance in the game into account, simply whether you won or lost. Then the increase or decrease is based on the average score of the enemy team.

For example (numbers used are simply for example, not actual numbers):

If the average score of your team is 1600, while the average score of the enemy team is 1500, if you win it'll go up +10 points, if you lose it'll go down -30 points

If the average score of your team is 1600, while the average score of the enemy team is 1700, if you win it'll go up +30 points, if you lose it'll go down -10 points

That's my understanding of the system, I could be wrong though.

That shit is so confusing tho, I consider it pretty shitty IMHO. You could be winning against a team full of premade with their gold star 1900 rating and win, and get only +4 elo. Then lose to the same people and go -30. That's why I tend to look at smitestuff.com it has a more accurate rating on your performance, rather than your loses and wins. However, if you're winning rate is 45% or so, then its most definitely on you for some of those losses.

But realistically I would have to strictly go on a scientific experiment and do some testing. Like you said, avg is 1600, win 10, lose 30.
Easiest way to do this is probably start of on a brand new account (smurfing bish) and count on your loses and wins, look for average elo, and how much you're gaining / losing, and yes, you may have to throw. Or you can do it on your main account.

It doesn't really correlate exactly with the way matchmaking works ingame.
Friend: Athena retreat, get out of there, what the heck are you doing!
Me: ATHENA DOESN'T KNOW THE MEANING OF RETREAT!
Friend: Well she better freaking learn it!
    *I die*
Me: OK, I retreated back to base... Just wait 20 seconds.

Personally I'd use Smitestuff instead. It weighs your account overall on everything from the god you're playing to the type of game, roles, to your stats, and everything in between, and then gives you feedback on what you can improve on, and how you rank against everyone else overall.
I made this god idea tell me how bad it is, yo!

I dunno about its assist system tho, get 3.7k assist on Athena and have a shitty assist standing.

It's helpful, but I think most people use Smiteguru to check their rating to get a ballpark estimate of what the MM probably thinks of them, rather than how good they actually are. My Smitestuff ratings are all good. My Smiteguru rating is average.

Assists per game is what's accounted for

Smiteguru could be better, because it counts new games. F.e. i have 2.2k games, so my average is much lower than current playing.
