The increased prize pool is a pretty big announcement on its own. I thought there might be more announcements (if there were, I missed them as I've been cooking dinner) to come since the prize money was spoiled on Twitter earlier today.

The real joke is they are banning those who don't agree with the 'game changing' announcement.

Go to another thread and cry about it.

As for this thread, I agree... they hyped this up way too much, Maybe if they were a little more descriptive with their teases I don't think people would be this mad, like "HEY GAIS BIG ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR ESPORTS! AND ONLY ESPORTS! DONT GET YOUR HOPES UP FOR ANYTHING ELSE! JUST E SPORTS!"

That does sound like a pretty big announcement, to be fair. It's showing that they're going to put serious effort into growing the e-sport scene.

I wouldn't say it's "game-changing," though, at least not for the average player.

i cant find the link right now. but a HiRez employee posted on twitter something along the lines of "if you think its just about esports your wrong"

EDIT: thanks deestart for finding it

the fact is HiRez recently stated they had a playerbase of around 4 MILLION people. how many of these people are active in the esport community.. 500 maybe? if im being generous 100 maybe if youre looking at the top 10 that have a realistic shot at getting past regional qualifiers.

think of how much 600k could do in terms of ACTUAL GAME DEVELOPMENT.
I am a firm believer that if the game is good the players will come. and if the players come the players themselves will create and hype the esport scene. all i see here is HiRez trying to jump into the ring with LoL and DoTA who have been around for much longer by cutting corners rather than building up a game that has the possibility of changing how people look at MOBA's entirely
