PTS Masks and How They Can be Properly Implemented

Essentially, here is the deal. If you are going to make S4 Rod of Tahuti 2.0 can you not make it 2600 gold??? At least make it 3300 or above because that is how Tahuti was last season. To make masks these implementable into the game you either nerf their values in the sense of what they give or the cost of the items. Basically I should not be getting one shot by Freya xD.

They need to go back to the drawing board with the masks.

    According to their statement:

This allows classes to essentially shift themselves. Warriors can become more guardian like by trading damage done for extra mitigation or can become more assassin like by trading survivability for Movement Speed.
These items provide an exciting level of customization in SMITE, allowing players to really express their playstyle while allowing high end players some fun options to really shake things up.
They're talking about tuning a character for a different role. Their example is a Warrior who normally sits between a Guardian and Assassin being able to "Shift" towards one way or another (Becoming tankier, or becoming more damaging)

However, all that's really happening is people are just exacerbating their own gods strengths.

Damage dealers are building the damage mask to do crazy damage.

Mercury (The Fastest God Alive) is building the speed mask to go sanic.

Tanks are building the tank mask to become really durable.

In addition, they're also not very good for actually shifting roles anyway.

Someone buying the Tank mask, is sacrificing their damage for defence. But that's not what makes a Guardian (I mean, Warriors get similar stats scaling to Guardians anyway). Guardians are mostly defined by their hard CC they have. The mask doesn't help with that. So your Warrior isn't suddenly going to be able to peel like a Guardian, they're still going to have limited CC, only now they do less damage and so can't play to the strengths of a Warrior by going bruiser (Ironically, the Damage mask would, as it lets them get more damage out while building those hybrid defence/offence items...)

Immobile characters picking up the speed mask, are still punished by being caught out. They don't suddenly get a dash/jump to get away from danger, or a CC immunity ultimate. In fact, their being out of position is now MORE punishable, since they take more damage from the inevitable CC chain coming their way (Which is the only way to actually capitalize on someone out of position regardless of if they have decent MS or not)

Low damage characters picking up the damage mask, don't suddenly get good scaling. Nor do they get a basic attack steroid. So you're still amplifying low damage and well, 0 x 1000 is still 0. It might help into the mid-game where a character's base damage can carry them with the amp, but a damage dealer is all about that late game damage for shredding objectives and taking out key targets quickly.
    Preferred Gods:
Aphrodite, Awilix, BAEllona, Da Ji, Discordia, Fenrir, Janus, Jing Bae, Nike, Nox, Skadi, Sol and The Morrigan.

    We need more kawaii skins!

If they want to force these new items into the game, they should nerf them:

    - make the damage item have 40 physical power and 80 (maybe even 90) magical power instead of 50 physical power and 100 magical power right now; reduce the penetration from 20 to either 15 for 80 magical power or 10 for 90 magical power; reduce the ability damage increase from 15% to 10% and attack damage power from 29% to 15%.

    - the mobility items should have 10% CDR instead of 20%, grant 10% movement speed increase instead of 20% and give 30 flat movement speed instead of 50.

    - the defense item is the only balanced to some extent item in this tree, altho damage mitigation could be reduced from permanent 15% to permanent 10%.

I'd rather they change masks to bridge items with mini tradeoffs. Kinda shift a kit to a degree, but small enough that you dont need it. These masks are too polarizing. The gods they're good on, which is a VERY broad spectrum, they're just too good to pass up.

To be fair, you can say the same thing about boots. The other item type you can only buy 1 of that isn't purely a starter item.
