[SPOILS] 5.12 Datamining: "The Incredibles 2 Sucks" Edition

    Fuck you, Pixar. Fuck. You.

-Skins are being made for gods that are in this game.
-That "Arena Mayan" map from before may not be an adventure, as it's currently listed as a miscellaneous item.
-Hera is now mentioned in the game's files, but nothing is known other than her title: "Queen of the Gods."
-Pele's passive utilizes a vague healing mechanic. Her 1 utilizes "up to 5 projectiles" and appears to have a stock system or some other "ammo" mechanic; it may be akin to Agni's Rain Fire. Her 2, as has been known, is a deployable with 3 AoE stages (inner, middle, and outer), but now it has a knockup. Her 3 is another deployable that grants a buff, and it may have 5 AoE ranges. Her ult utilizes a line and/or cone, and Pele can either charge it or it causes her to charge forward. Like, with her legs.
-The next adventure may be a callback to classic Joust. Hooray for turtling...

The film completely ignored everything the first one established. Supers are, apparently, not back in business after stopping the Omnidroid, despite the fact that that's what the cliffhanger with the Underminer was supposed to imply; Bob just repeats his character arc of wanting to go back to crime-fighting and learning to be a better dad; the Parrs somehow don't know that Jack-Jack has powers even though they saw him go apeshit on Syndrome; and the agency that manages supers dissolves in an instant even though it's proven itself necessary for keeping track of supers.

The villain is fucking garbage. You can tell who's she's going to be from the very moment she butts in on her brother talking about their father's death, yet the movie tries to hide it. She's also not exactly a well-written character. First, she monologues to Elastigirl despite having no need to--something the first film outright mocked. Second, her movitations are nonsense. She lets her brother put so much effort into making supers look good, but her endgame was to make them look bad? And all this because of the aforementioned "dead parents" shit, which wasn't really the fault of the supers, as she should be able to recognize if she's able to figure out that her brother only supports supers because he associates them with the time when his parents were alive? Third, her plan sucks. Like I said, she just lets the pro-super propaganda continue without sabotaging it too much.

The shit with Jack-Jack was filler. It wasn't especially funny, it didn't progress the plot (except when it did, and that was forced as fuck), and it didn't really have any important consequences, especially when you consider that the Parrs should have already known he had powers, but I've already touched on that.

The minor characters are so lifeless and flat. They're poorly-developed filler, just like the Jack-Jack "arc." The only ones with any personality are that billionaire with a nose that could cut down a tree and Void, who could have been more fun if they'd just been given time. The new supers should have been fewer in number so they could get more development, and we should have seen more of triangle-nose-man.

Helen is smart enough to figure out that the Screenslaver (whose name is a pun based on technology that wouldn't have existed yet) is within the company she's been working with, but she doesn't think that maybe it's a bad idea to shout it right in front of someone who could be one of the conspirators; and that comes to bite her in the ass because that someone WAS the Screenslaver.

The film doesn't really add to what the first one had to say. The Incredibles went through part of what a society where superheroes exist could be like--or at least what it's like in Pixar's collective imagination--for the superheroes themselves. This movie could have gone into the celebrity culture surrounding supers and how people interact with them, but it didn't. We just saw poorly-rehashed ideas from a movie that doesn't start with an insultingly pretentious clip of Samuel L. Jackson and whoever plays the other characters telling me that it was worth the 14-year wait to see this piece of fucking shit for real money that I earned on an occasion that I should be devoting to enjoying myself.

The logic of the world the film takes place in is fucked over immensely. Where The Incredibles partially showed us the hoops both the government and the supers had to go through to make their dynamic work, The Incredibles II doesn't even try to be consistent or logical. Supers take a total of one afternoon to illegalize, and after presumably federal law goes into effect, one city and a corporation are somehow allowed to bypass that law by letting Elastigirl do hero work. Then, after the supers are hypnotized into commandeering the boat, nobody questions for a moment that they were under mind control. Speaking of just accepting things, they never question Elastigirl's stunts.

The shit with Tony was done really lazily. Instead of juggling an arc where nobody else knows he saw Violet take off her mask, thus leading to a complex dynamic where he has to keep this secret and keep up with Violet, which in turn could have given her some good character development, nothing really comes of it except another thing Bob has to juggle. Not only that, but Violet just sorta lets it go later in the film.

The fight with the Underminer is underwhelming and ends with a loose thread that's never tied. He declares war on peace and happiness itself, and then...he robs a bank? In the most convoluted way possible? I don't think he's a worthy main antagonist, but he could have at least been part of better action scenes.

Oh yeah, and the action is hollow. It's not creative, it's not fun, it's just boring.

So yeah, Incredibles II is shit. It wasn't worth 14 years. It wasn't worth just 1. It's like a shitty first draft of some kind. I know I'm a nostalgic fuck, but I'm not a geewunner.
