Lightbulb God Picks for New Players

So I have enough Favor to get a God but have put it off for several reasons. I have spent time looking around and came to a realization. There is no recommended guide for God Picks for New People. I see Gods are marked in game as Easy, Advanced, etc. but some of the Starters are not marked as Easy so I am not sure if that is how to choose by. I admit I am tempted to just get Gods that seem interesting but that may not lead to success.

Then I remembered in other games I have played they have stuff like this such as MechWarrior Online, they have Mech builds for New People to try out designed by the Community. Here I cannot find anything like that. It can get very confusing with the different Tier Lists some of which are old. I find YouTube videos but the choices are different and there are no build suggestions, some of the videos are 1+ years old, some do not offer a choice per class.

So I thought why not do the same here. Have Community members support Gods for New People. These do not have to be super competitive but ones a New Player would have an easier time understanding and using, possibly getting some success with.

It would be a good idea to have choices that are good in more than one Mode, possibly with a generic build. I have seen Gods recommended with different builds per Mode but using one build for more than one Mode could make it easier to use since new people may not like constantly switching builds between match types.

It is also a good idea to have choices for each class. Every new player like me if they get all the free gods will have 3 Mages, 2 Hunters and 1 each of the other 3. The matches I have played, I quite often see the starting Mages and Hunters chosen but less so the other 3.

You can use those Tier List sites but instead of rating Gods by comp play, rate them by New Player Friendly according to ranks.
I will come back to this after some time, see what is listed and try to put together a Community List of which Gods were the most supported with builds.

Well... The thing is, there's Jungle Practice mode for messing around with different gods to see how they work, see what items seem good on them and figure out if the god is close to your playstyle.

Since, it's all well and good listing a bunch of newb friendly gods, but in general, it's all about knowledge on how to build and how to play your role.

That's why you can have someone play an easy god like say, Bellona, who is mechanically simple (She basically just holds left click at people) but can be hard to excel with because people often do terrible builds on her.

Since, honestly, all gods are relatively simple to play. It's all various forms of trying to land skill shots, be they projectiles (Like Hunter basic attacks) or targeted effects (Like most Mage abilities).

It all comes down to making a good build and learning how to play where you are. For example, Junglers need to know how to split their time between farming and ganking. Supports need to know how to frontline and how to peel. Etc.
    Preferred Gods:
Amaterasu, Aphrodite, BAEllona, Da Ji, Hel, Jing Wei, Nike, Nox, Osiris, Scylla, Skadi, Sol and The Morrigan.

You probably seen most Gods by now played by someone else. Pick one you think would be fun to play really. And if you look for a strong pick I think you should have a clue about that as well after evaluating your games.

For versatile I'd say Xing tian, Cern/Xabal, Agni/Poseidon, Hun Batz and Odin. All have some form of dash so you better can run from trouble, everyone have a big teamfight ult, if not for a kill then just for a peel and that alone is always something as you start to learn them. The exception being pos and agni. Agnis team fight ain't super unless you really land his combo on multiple Gods, I think Agni takes some time to learn more so the other mages, and pos is easier to land a big hit with but he has no dash but is really easy to understand while still ok safe cause he has extra ms and no one will get mad if you get Gem of Iso on him and that also helps with escaping trouble.

Well firstly, Hades was originally a Guardian, and Neith can't be played like a Hunter, she's played like a mage...
so technically you'd have 1 Hunter, 3 Mages, 2 Guardians, 1 Warrior and 1 Assassin

Assassins being the hardest role to play decently at I don't recommend buying anything for beginners, apart from Bastet or Hun Batz, but even then they aren't that easy.

Warriors aren't that easy too, because building them seems to be confusing with the default build guide. I won't recommend beginners to start with Warriors

    Anyways..

    Hunters:

Cernunnos is probably the easiest, because he has a safe and fast escape, a painfully high but easy to aim Damage Root. CC On a Hunter? Yes Please... And then he has a 1 that gives you 4 Free Items, for some reason... The ultimate is very good as well if you can slightly time it.. which is easy considering the stupid high size of the AoE.

Cernunnos isn't as easy as Neith, but he's probably the best Hunter to be built for AA's

Number 2 would be Rama in my opinion.. Rama also has a safe escape, and his kit is pretty simple.. Press 2, Press 1, Hold down LMB. His 2 is an attack speed steroid, with pickups for his 1, and his 1 is a stupidly strong, considering late game Rama AA's hit for 300 damage.. the only thing restraining him from the top is the fact he needs aim for the ultimate, which is a bit tricky. If you cannot aim that well, use the ultimate to delay your death, if your escape is on cool down.

    Mages:

For mages I'd say the easiest god is... Kukulkan.. except for the ultimate, his kit is pretty straight forward.

I'm not sure of other easy Mages, but I'd say Chang'e is a close second. Easy to confirm kit, stupid amounts of mobility.

    Guardians:

Bacchus, Ares. They deal buttloads of damage too!

Also note that this is for players with a deal damage kinda playstyle

Thanks, I forgot I could do this. I have been trying some from the 3 classes I want a second in.

Well that is part of the problem.
As a new player, I am not seeing most Gods getting played. Right now by class I mainly see:
Mages - Kukulkan, Poseidon, Ra, Scylla
Hunters - Artemis or Neith except for a Hachiman once
Warrior - Hercules a couple times, Chaac when he was on rotation, Bellona once
Guardian - another rare pick, Sylvanus once, Ymir once, I think Bacchus once, I think Kumbhakarna once, maybe a rotation one a couple times
Assassin - Thor, Loki (even before rotation), Bakasura (even after rotation), once a Thanatos and once a Hun Batz
    That's it really.
And in most matches, there are 2 Mages or Hunters, sometimes both, once 3 but I forget which class.

I like the point about dash, I think the teamfight is also a point but could involve more than the Ult since that usually has such a long cooldown so I also look to if abilities affect that too now.

Hades is not a free one, maybe on rotation but not a starter. Starters including free ones from the 3 offers include:
    Assassin - Thor
    Guardian - Ymir
Hunter - Neith, Artemis (Twitter offer 2 skins)
Mage - Ra (FB 2nd skin offer), Nu Wa (YouTube offer 2 skins), Janus (SMITE esports page offer 2 skins)
    Warrior - Guan Yu

I try to get build inspiration from seeing other builds online and learned to use the God Builder.

I just see so many Mages and Hunters, I am thinking new people pick them to stay at range thinking it is safe there. I also believe what is said that all roles should be learned when starting a MOBA. Me, I want to find at least one that fits in each role.

And I have some Coupon Code in game for a discount on a god to use by tomorrow but it does not say how much and whether it is for Gems, Favor or both.

Hades is not a free one, maybe on rotation

I'm not an idiot, and tbh I feel insulted when you use those wordings, of course I know he isn't a starter or isnt based on rotation [/quoting]

but not a starter. Starters including free ones from the 3 offers include:
    Assassin - Thor
    Guardian - Ymir
Hunter - Neith, Artemis (Twitter offer 2 skins)

Well sorry, I got the definition of starter wrong.. What I meant wasn't that.. I thought you meant gods that are less than 5500 cost wise..

Which are Artemis for 575 Favor, Hades for 2000, Agni for 1250 and Kukulkan for 2500

Also the coupon is a 100% discount if you use gems, A.K.A Free..

New People just can't play melee gods, they are very hard in Smite.. try to avoid them till lvl 15-ish.. XD

It's a little bit the safety and a little bit the role and probably quite a lot that Hunter's are OP as heck.

Ranged gods tend to be safer if there's a frontline keeping the enemy off them, but if they don't have an escape being dove on is usually death (But most Hunters have an escape or 2 so they're pretty safe)

The role of ranged gods, is to carry games by pushing out huge damage. Which appeals to players, so it attracts the newer players.

Then of course we have Hunters who have completely bloated kits full of everything they could possibly want, combined with selections of items that are really strong and enough safety that they can build full glass cannon without issue (Which is what people want to do, because again, damage is what people are attracted to)

If you want a newbie god from each role then I guess:

Assassin: Camazotz/Thor - Both are quintessential Assassins who err on the slightly tankier side of things and have ranged poke to help assist a newbie who isn't familiar with playing true melee yet.

Guardian: Athena/Bacchus/Ganesha - Athena is pretty simple, you dash in, you taunt, you drop a ring. Do this frequently and GG. Bacchus is babby's first Bruiser, he jumps in and whacks dudes for decent chunks of damage while having innate damage reduction to help mitigate things. Ganesha is another relatively simple god, you just throw stuff at enemies and when something bad is happening just shut it down with his silence.

Hunter: Anyone. Really, pick whatever looks coolest, build crit, hold M1 and get pentas... Really only steer away from Ullr and Izanami. The former because people think he's hard (He just lands abilities like literally every mage does... But that's too hard for Hunter mains apparently) and the latter because her default basic attack is unusual as it's boomerangs which can be somewhat difficult to get used to if you're not good with regular ranged basics first.

Mage: Poseidon/Thoth - Pos you just plop down your whirlpools which really mess up enemies and drop Krakens on people, buy Gem of Isolation and watch how people can't escape your whirlpools at all. Thoth, put down window, activate 1, M1. When in danger dash 1000000 miles through the window, then drop a stun on your attacker and delete them with your 1...

Warrior: Bellona/Odin/Osiris - Bellona and Osiris are pretty straight forward. You build bruiser and basic attack people to death. Odin is all about his 2-1 combo. Activate shield, goomba stomp someone for like 900 damage and if they're still alive plop down your ult to trap everyone in the ring that debuffs attack speed and negates healing.
    Preferred Gods:
Amaterasu, Aphrodite, BAEllona, Da Ji, Hel, Jing Wei, Nike, Nox, Osiris, Scylla, Skadi, Sol and The Morrigan.

Izzako, something happened in your last post. It shows me quoted as saying:

    I never said that.
Seems it was just a misunderstanding but WTH?

Well thank you folks, I picked up Athena, Odin and Hun Batz though I only get to use the first two so far, not regretted it.
Just need to improve skills for PvP.
