That would be preferable to a shitty Beyonce song (read: any Beyonce song).

Technically she only indirectly caused the war. She didn't set out to cause it, it just happened because she was wanting to thumb her nose at some other gods, and it got out of hand. Saying "she started the war" is giving her too much credit.

For clarification about Shintoism and Buddhism, Shintoism is more or less the core values of the Japanese, and is now considered more of a lifestyle of being a good person. Buddhism is more or less the "practiced" version of the Religion coin. both are still heavily relevant to Japan and both have dedicated shrines to spirits and gods.

She set up the contest where Paris had to choose.

Which led to a kidnapping, which led to a war.

All the major Olympian gods joined the war on the Trojan or Greek side.

She's the spark that lit a fire.

Sure she didn't quite intend that (or maybe she did, strife = argument, big argument with swords = war) but she did cause it by the golden apples.

Cause and Effect. The entire Trojan War can be traced to her not being invited to a party everyone else was invited to.
What do I put here now?

Hey, I remember something from school!

I started a way to annoy people by answering questions with answers that Do not help..

    Everybody followed that method

Someone annoyed the school bully with that method

The bully pushed the guy he annoyed and broke a window..

If traced all the way that would be my fault

No, she didn't set up the contest. She tossed the apple into the middle of a celebration it knowing it would cause chaos as every goddess there would claim it was meant for her. And they did. At the end, only Aphrodite, Athena and Hera were left, and demanded that Zeus decide who deserved it. Now, Zeus was a lot of things, but stupid wasn't one of them (most of the time). So he pawned off the responsibility for deciding it and chose Paris, as he was known to be fair (there's another story that relates to that involving Ares). Paris, however, wasn't AT the wedding in question, so he had to be gathered up by Hermes and brought there.

The three goddesses each tried to bribe Paris with something. Hera offered to make him king of the world, Athena offered to make him a brilliant and wise warrior, and Aphrodite offered him the most beautiful woman in the world as his wife, guaranteeing that she would fall in love with him and not "resist his charms". So he chose Aphrodite, and thus Helen, and that sparked the whole thing.

So yes, she INDIRECTLY caused it. But starting the war wasn't her goal. Just creating chaos among the gods was. The war was just a byproduct, due to a number of variables that happened.

By throwing the apple, she created the contest.

Cause and effect xD. The whole Trojan War can be traced exclusively to her not being invited to some party and throwing a fit.

    ---

And at the heart of all wars is an unresolved conflict. Who creates the conflict? Eris.

Creating chaos among Gods sparks conflicts that greatly affect the mortal world.

Like Smite. Which uses Humans as minions lol. And is fought on Earth (least Conquest is).

So Eris caused Smite, which is a battle of all the pantheons due to some reason or another I forgot (it's in Smite comics i think).

As I said, it's indirect. She had no intention of starting a war, she just wanted to thumb her nose at the other gods for snubbing her.

It's akin to the old "for want of a nail" proverb.

The comics started as I recall with a plot by Hades to off Zeus to get his power, he started the ball rolling by baiting Anubis to try and claim this souls of his pantheons dead (they're both gods of death) which was followed by the assisination of Zeus with the help of Ao Kuang, Loki and Hel. Anubis was blamed and Hades directed Ares against the Egyptians (where he kicked everyone's ass including killing Anhur) but didn't find Anubis.

The Odyssey takes over with Ares still murdering everyone seeking out Anubis (poor Chaac) and Athena seeking out the truth (alongside Neith). No mention of Eris but I'm sure she will feature in Roman section of Odyssey story though.

The comics were more centred on Hades and Loki being the instigators of Smite than anyone else though. In fact the only Roman we've seen in them really was Mercury (as Hermes and he got killed by Loki lol)
