The difference between tank and support roles

For those who think every guardian/warrior is a support, that isn't true. Hel and Odin are perfect examples of this. Odin can absorb chunks of damage, but nor his passive nor abilities benefit your your team. Hel offers healing, mobility and CC removal, but she cant absorb as much damage as guardians or warriors.

There are hybrid support/tank gods like Sylvanus, Terra and Fafnir which can both aid you and tank so I suggest picking them if your team lack both healers and tanks.

In my opinion is just as simple as this, a support should be a tank but tank doesn't have to be a support.

I see supports as Gods whose abilities or passive benefit your allies

I took a long break from Smite. When I came back, I mained Terra. She's my new favorite.

I think it was because your preceding sentence made it seem like you would give only guardian and warrior examples then you mention a mage.

She's a healer, though, which tends to get new players confused. I fell into that trap when I was new.

Why must all supports be tanks, though? If you're gonna have a couple tanks elsewhere on the comp, why can't you have a squishier support who can do just as well?

Its very damn hard to be truly squishie with support items
Also, most guardians only exceed in support role because they have, unlike some minor offpicks, a place in general comps rather than focused on 1 tactic

For me a support is someone who can take damage for you, someone who will die protecting you, not just someone who applies cc and auras.
