Clan?

this probably has been answered but im having a bit of trouble finding the answer, what is the purpose of a clan?, if anyone can answer this in a friendly manner it would be much obliged

You get to chat and play with people in a party, clans make it easy to party up with people you haven't played with (not in recently played) and also are not in your friends list.
In my casual clan I haven't played with each member yet so it helps in that regard.
You can block clan members also, I had to block a member in my clan
